Captain Greg Freeze, USCG Master/50 Ton/Towing Assist
Some of my early fishing memories are from Lake Erie. When I was a kid, my family used to take a trip to the lake every summer right around my birthday in June. Back in those days, we used to cast Erie Dearies and Golden Nuggets and on occasion troll Hot-N-Tots on hand held straight lines. I've always had a fascination with chasing walleyes and pursued them in many inland lakes around the country and Canada, besides Lake Erie. Throughout the 90's and early 2000's we would take several fishing trips to Lake Erie every year. In the early spring of 2011 my Dad and I toyed with the idea of getting a big boat for Lake Erie. Soon after we purchased a 27' Sportcraft, and began focusing all of our fishing on Lake Erie. I received my USCG 50 ton Master credentials in 2014. The Lake Erie fishery is just too special not to share!
The Boat
We started in 1997 27' Sportcraft. In the fall of '16, I had the chance to get a 30' and haven't looked back. The extra room in the 30' boat makes charter loads much more enjoyable! We fish out of a 1989 30' Great Lakes Special Sportcraft. She's powered by a 1998 Crusader 454XL. These GLS hulls handle the toughest conditions Lake Erie can throw at us. For electronics, she's equipped with a Raymarine Auto Pilot with remote control, a Gen3 HDS 12, a Gen2 HDS 9, 2 VHF radios, and Lowrance 4G Radar. For the women, there is an enclosed head.
